What is Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET®)?

Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique, also known as NAET®, is a non-invasive solution to help resolve allergies and sensitivities of all types and intensities.

It was discovered by Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad—a trained medical doctor, chiropractor and acupuncturist—in 1983. She has trained over 9000 licensed medical practitioners in NAET procedures and NAET is now practiced worldwide.

The technique draws on our modern medical knowledge of allergies, combined with the understanding of our nervous/energy system as described in traditional oriental medicine, chiropractic, and kinesiological disciplines. By treating a sensitivity at the nervous/energy system level, that sensitivity will no longer trigger events in other systems such as the immune or digestive systems: by addressing the triggers upstream (the nervous/energy system), NAET can resolve a wide range of health concerns downstream (the digestive/immune/skin/etc. symptoms you experience).

The key to the effectiveness of this technique is that it is able to treat health concerns that are specifically sensitivity or allergy related.

What can be treated by NAET®?

NAET is very effective in the treatment of our most common environmental allergies/sensitivities such as seasonal, grass, animal, dust, mold, fumes, etc., and in the treatment of a wide range of food allergies including milk, eggs, nuts, etc.

In some cases, such as milk (lactose) intolerance, seasonal allergies, or nut allergies, the patient is aware of the triggers and treatment involves desensitizing the components of that trigger.

In many cases, the patient is not aware that their symptoms are caused by an allergy or sensitivity. In this situation both lab tests and/or NAET testing can be used to determine underlying allergens or triggers. These are then treated in the same manner as we would for known sensitivities.

Health concerns which commonly fall into this category include headaches, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, joint/muscle pain, eczema and other rashes, frequent infections, hot flashes, mood swings, behavioural problems, hypoglycemia symptoms, bladder infections (chronic/recurrent), cough (chronic/recurrent), yeast infections (chronic/recurrent).

Having practiced NAET since 2008, I’ve had first-hand experience of seeing the list of treatable health concerns continue to grow. I’ve also become much more open minded to the wide range of symptoms that can be allergy related. At the same time it is important to recognize that this technique, although extremely effective, is not a cure-all. The training (FAQs) that comes with being a naturopathic doctor is very helpful in determining what role allergies play, and what other causes may be impacting an individual patient’s health.

What does treatment involve?

One allergen is treated at a time. If your nervous system is balanced and strong you may need just a few treatments to desensitize an allergen. A person with mild to moderate allergies may take 10-20 office visits to desensitize 10-20 food and environmental allergens. The number of treatments is determined at the initial consultation.

Treatment itself is very gentle and non-invasive. Light pressure is applied to certain locations on the back, and an acustim device is used to gently vibrate specific acupuncture points – no needles are required.
Treatment is safe for infants and in pregnancy.
